Renovating is a popular way to add value to property, but there’s no reason you need to spend a lot of time and money getting your property up to scratch.
If you have a few weekends to spare before putting your property on the market then put them to good use by doing a few small projects around your home that will help it present better.
If you’re not sure where to start, below are a few ideas:
Add a coat of paint
There’s no denying the power of paint when it comes to freshening up a home and best of all it’s easy to DIY.
Most properties will benefit from an exterior and interior repaint. Just make sure that the exterior colours you choose blend in well with the streetscape. Tackle kerb appeal
Ideally you want buyers to fall in love with your home as soon as they set eyes on it. This is why kerb appeal is so important, it’s what attracts people to your home and has them wanting more. To improve kerb appeal spend time fixing up things like fencing, garden paths and the letterbox.
Get the lawn up to scratch too and if you have time then plant new colourful flowers that will be out in bloom in time for property inspections.
Spruce up the kitchen
The kitchen is the heart and soul of any home so it needs to look its best at sale time. There is a lot that can be done to update a kitchen and a lot will depend on finances and what you are willing or capable of doing yourself.
A few easy fixes include:
- Installing new tapware
- Repainting cabinet doors
- Installing a new benchtop
- Covering ugly flooring with new vinyl flooring
Install new window treatments
If you have old, daggy curtains or a view you want to hide then invest in new window treatments for your property.
Choose neutral colours that blend in with the walls and try to consider the light and privacy needs of each room.
Rooms that get a lot of sun may need sunscreen curtains or blinds to help block the sun and keep the room cooler. If you want to show off a view but retain privacy then venetian blinds or semi-transparent curtains or blinds may be a good option.
Pressure clean
Clean, exterior surfaces help make your property look well maintained. Pressure cleaners are a great way to get rid of dirt and mildew on exterior walls, decks and pathways.
The garage may also need a thorough cleaning. Sweep, wash and if necessary de-grease your garage floor.
