The living room is the central hub of a home – it’s the place we entertain guests and sit down and relax after a long, hard day.
For this reason, a well-presented living room is in important item to tick on most home buyer’s wish lists. They are looking for a living room space that is comfortable and relaxing, and has a little bit of style too.
It doesn’t take much to improve a living room space. Sometimes it only takes a few little tweaks to make a living area feel more spacious and inviting.
Here are some ideas to jazz up your living room:
- Pay attention to furniture placement
Make sure your furniture suits the space. If your table is too large then remove any extensions or replace with a more appropriately sized setting.
Also make sure that furniture isn’t blocking any walkways or doors.
- Get the right window treatments
If a room needs more light, consider sheer curtains, blinds or shutters. Big and colourful curtains can make for an interesting room feature, but in general window treatments look best in neutral shades so they blend in with their surroundings.
- Rethink TV placement
Don’t make the television set the focus of the room, not every chair or lounge needs to be facing it. A mounted television can make a room look more streamlined, or a new TV unit can also provide a way to make a television blend in with the rest of a room.
- Add a rug
Rugs help add a bit of colour and interest to a room and they can help separate different areas. Make sure to choose a rug that is appropriately sized for the room it’s in. In a lounge it should be big enough so that the front feet of the sofa and all occasional chairs, fit on the rug.
- Play around with style and colour
The living room is your chance to have fun with different styles and colours. Add splashes of colour through items like artwork and pillows and feel free to mix and match sofas and armchairs. Try to match in the style with the rest of the house and for inspiration take a look in interior magazines or websites like Pinterest.
