You’ve cleaned your home inside and out and put out fresh flowers to impress potential buyers – so are you ready for your first open home?
While most owners put in a lot of effort to get their homes ready for sale, there are inevitably some areas that fail to get the attention they deserve.
For this reason it is always a good idea to have a third party come in and check the property’s appearance and make sure that no stone has been left unturned.
Some of the most common areas that go unnoticed by sellers include:
The garden – Many property owners spend hours getting the inside of their home looking perfect while forgetting to spend time getting their garden up to the same standard.
The garden is the first thing that buyers see so it needs to be neat and tidy if you want to make a good first impression. Make sure that lawns are mowed, weeds have been pulled out and overgrown foliage has been trimmed back.
The ceiling – Homeowners shouldn’t forget to look up when preparing their homes for sale. Draw attention to any exposed beams or cathedral ceilings with special lighting, but make sure to remove any cobwebs and dust.
The aim is to dazzle buyers with a property’s most stunning features, not point out all of the areas a feather duster can’t reach.
Cupboard spaces – Don’t hide away all that clutter in your cupboards and drawers because you never know where buyers will look.
Many buyers like to open up cupboards to check on the amount of space available. Keep them looking as clean and tidy as every other area in the house and put items in storage if you have more stuff than you know what to do with.
Lighting – Lighting is a crucial element of a home and yet one that is often ignored by homeowners. When enough light is shining in a room it can create a sense of space and make the area feel more warm and welcoming.
To fix any lighting issues, open all curtains, turn on lamps, and be sure to clean skylights and windows thoroughly.
