Whyalla initiative to improve street appeal
Whyalla continues to show it is one of the regional towns on the move, with a recent State Government investment of $235,000 to undertake an upgrade in the town centre.
The project should reinforce the ‘main-street’ character of the town centre and make it a more pleasant environment for everyone to enjoy, planning minister, John Rau told the Whyalla News.
“As Whyalla is the third largest city in South Australia and is the major population, industry and service centre for the Eyre and Western Region, this initiative will also encourage private investment into public realm improvements. The project will improve Forsyth and Patterson Streets and will include a number of initiatives and upgrades, including street tree planting, street furniture and signage and lighting. In addition to this, the city will create ‘Parklets’ along these streets, which provide small seated areas for pedestrians and diners, expanding current opportunities for outdoor dining and public activity.”
Whyalla’s median house price in February 2013 was $285,000 and rose to $495,000 in January 2014, according to realestate.com. This makes it one of the best-performing real estate markets in South Australia in the past 12 months.
