How great it was to hear the news early this month that a builder has been signed to redevelop the Central Oval Community and Sporting Hub in Port Augusta!
We agree with City Manager, Greg Perkin, when he said it was “the right project for building the Port Augusta of the future.”
“It’s not hard to sense the level of enthusiasm and excitement in Port Augusta right now, and across the ‘Iron Triangle’. It’s great to see,” said The Professionals CEO, Ted Piteo.
“Construction should generate employment and economic opportunity in the region and a boost for residents and businesses there. After the facilities are built, they will be a stand-out addition to the recreational and sporting features of the city.”
Site works have commenced at the oval with construction anticipated to begin in early August.
Included in the redevelopment plans are an AFL standard football oval, and the addition of netball courts to the site. A two-storey multi-use stadium will be the centrepiece of the project and will feature three multi-use courts, an upstairs function area with viewing to both the ovals and the indoor courts, and retractable walls that will open the stadium onto a plaza precinct.
