The Victor Harbor, Goolwa and Middleton communities are a step closer to having a brilliant new pool facility for the Fleurieu region, after the Alexandrina Council and the City of Victor Harbor gained $7.5 million in Regional Development funding for the Fleurieu Regional Aquatic Centre in June.
Key inclusions of the project, which has received strong community support, include an 8-lane by 25-metre lap pool, a recreation and therapy pool, kiosk, change rooms, plant room and car parking.
Construction tendering will likely occur in mid-2014, with construction proceeding during 2014/15. Opening of the facility to the public is anticipated towards the end of 2015.
Professionals CEO, Ted Piteo, said the announcement was a boon for the Fleurieu towns, and he hoped the flow-through effects would include employment and economic opportunities for local residents, business and suppliers.
“This is a project that really shows the sky is the limit when the people, councils, stakeholders and government work towards a common goal,” Mr Piteo said. “I congratulate everyone involved in this outcome.”
It’s further great news for Victor Habor, which was also named the nation’s tidiest town at a Keep Australia Beautiful award ceremony recognising efforts to boost sustainability in May.
